WELCOME The Mitchell Brook trail at Mile Slip was constructed by an eagle scout and is open to hikers only. It is a lovely 1.3 mile long trail that leads from the parking lot down the hill to the riparian buffer along Mitchell Brook and back up to Mile Slip Road. Directions to Mile Slip Town Forest: Summit Trail at Mile Slip Town Forest A hiking trail to the summit of Badger Hill has been completed. It starts a short way south on Mile Slip Rd. from the parking lot and leads the hiker to the top of Badger Hill, where the view is beautiful! More scenic views can be enjoyed on the southern section of the trail as you make your way back down to Mile Slip Rd. The trail is ~1 mile long and very steep in places. It comes out to Mile Slip Rd. across from the Mitchell Brook Trail. Rail-Trail crossing at Melendy Road The hikers on the Rail-Trail must scramble up a steep grade when going south and crossing Melendy Road. A potential eagle scout has built steps. The scout also installed a bench overlooking Compressor Pond. We are sure many folks will be very grateful. Please remember, the pond is on private property, please stay on the trail. News from Mayflower Hill Mayflower Hill Town Forest is close to town and receives many visitors. The blazing and signage was in desperate need of refreshing to avoid 'lost' hikers, of which there were many. Not only is the new Conservation Land Management Committee remarking the trails but our water department has built us a new parking lot! The access road to the water tower is being rebuilt and while they are working there the water department has graciously made 4 parking spaces for walkers at the Shady Lane entrance. Check it out! We could use your help! We would like to learn about the wildlife and other natural resources that are in our town. We want to have a good idea of where the roaming paths and nesting areas are of deer, bear, birds, fox, moose and other wildlife. If you see a natural resource such as a wild animal, a rare plant, or an historic feature, please let us know. Email, US mail or call us with the information that is on the Reporting Form. It the species is rare, endangered or threatened, we will forward the information to the Natural Heritage Bureau (NHB). Even if the species that you report is not at risk, information about what resources are in town is of great value to us in our mission to "promote the conservation, protection and sound management of Milford's natural resources for current and future generations." Thank you!
